Are You A Woke Catholic?

Are You A Woke Catholic? Source: Complete Christianity The dictionary defines “woke” as the past-tense version of awakening, becoming alert, or to emerge from sleep. Wikipedia defines “woke” as a political term, having African-American origin, that refers to a perceived awareness of issues concerning social justice. It is derived from the African-American vernacular English expression “stay woke,” whose grammatical aspect refers to a continuing awareness of these issues. The Urban Dictionary defines “woke” as a sudden understanding of what’s really going on and finding out you were wrong about much of what you understood to be truth. It compares the expression to what happens after taking the red pill in the original Matrix movie. If you’ve never seen the 1999 Matrix movie, you can watch a 30-minute condensed version of it here . The film is a science fiction thriller about a dystopian future in the late 27th century, wherein machines have taken over the world and turned human

Fasting, Ember Days and Reparation of Sins

Image
Fasting, Ember Days and Reparation of Sins The winter Ember Days of 2018 are Wednesday, Friday & Saturday this week — Dec. 19, 21 and 22 Derya Little, NC Register Dec. 18, 2018 One of my fondest memories about Islam, admittedly one of the very few, was waking before sunrise to eat with my mom during Ramadan. I was very young, six or seven, but I looked forward to the dark mornings when the house smelled of freshly steeped tea. In the quiet of the night, we ate our tahini bread and drank our tea. Until sun down, there would be no food and no drinks —not even a glass of water or a piece of gum. Even though often fasting all day brought out the worst in people, Ramadan is a very special time of the year in every Muslim country. The community pulls together and there is a very strong sense of reverence and awareness of things that are not of this world. After those few cherished childhood days, for a long time I didn’t give any thought to Ramadan except when we had to

We’re Taking Back Christmas

We’re Taking Back Christmas By Steffani Jacobs 10 December AD 2018 Growing up, I remember Christmas being such a magical time of year. As soon as Thanksgiving was over, the Christmas decorations came out, the tree went up, and Christmas lists were made out to Santa. For thousands of families across America, especially for children, Christmas is all about the things that come in pretty boxes, wrapped in paper and bows. Even going to Christmas Vigil or Mass is drowned out by the excitement of gift giving and visiting family. And, while many Christian families display a Nativity scene, it’s often lost in the sea of Santa trinkets, elves, and presents. Christmas wasn’t always this way – at least for Catholics. It used to be a day to celebrate not gift giving or charity, and not even family gatherings. Rather, it was a day to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child – our King. A Protestant Tradition In fact, gift-giving was a popular tradition consigned to the Feast Day of Sai

TEN Reasons to Attend the Latin Mass Why should you attend the Latin Mass? Maybe you've never seen one or it's been decades since you attended a traditional Latin Mass (1962). They discuss traditional catholic priesthood, rubrics, liturgy, music, children, sermons, offertory, architecture, customs, etc. and end with recommendations for those going to the Latin Mass for the first time to the Latin Mass Missal of 1962 as used by FSSP, Institute of Christ the King, Ecclesia Dei, and SSPX. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

December 8th—The Hour of Grace for the World

Image
Image by  SalomeMaydron  from  Pixabay The Hour of Grace for the World is celebrated from 12.00 pm to 1.00 pm at the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary . It is connected with the revelation of Mary on December 8th, 1947, in Montichiari, Italy, where She said: It is my wish that every year, on 8th December, at noon, the Hour of Grace for the World be celebrated. Many divine and bodily graces will be received through this devotion. … This Hour of Grace will produce great and numerous conversions. Hardened and cold hearts resembling this marble will be touched by divine Grace, and they will become faithful to Our Lord in loyal love. … it is my wish that the Hour of Grace for the World be made known and spread throughout the world. … Soon one will recognize the greatness of this Hour of Grace. … If anyone is unable to visit his church, yet will pray at noon at home.  he will also receive graces through me.... will find a secure heavenly ladder and receiv

Why Do Novus Ordo-Raised Catholics Migrate to the Traditional Latin Mass?

Why Do Novus Ordo-Raised Catholics Migrate to the Traditional Latin Mass? By  Jeff Dahlberg OnePeterFive Many of those who grew up in the pre-Vatican II era can’t understand why anyone born after, say, 1970 could possibly be attracted to the traditional Latin Mass. After all, they reason, who wants to go back to the days when the priest “turned his back to the people” and “mumbled in a dead language,” when only a “few old women” went up for Communion and most of the congregation “daydreamed” while these same old women said their Rosaries? I can still remember hearing these arguments, when I, as a 16-year-old, went to RCIA classes at St. Albert’s parish in North Tonawanda, N.Y. in the mid-1990s. “Ya like Latin, huh?” said Deacon Brick, my instructor, with an incomprehensive look on his face when I told him I preferred the TLM. Deacon Brick and others of his generation couldn’t fathom how any young Catholic would want to return to a past they thought they had buried for good.

Latin Mass, Latin Exorcism, Latin Sacraments Crush The Devil

Latin Mass, Latin Exorcism, Latin Sacraments Crush The Devil BY  FATHER CAROTA Ancient Catholic Missals show that the Latin Mass Canon has been basically the same ever since Pope Gregory the Great (560-604) . Pope Pius V (1504-1572), only slightly modified this ancient Gregorian Missal, along with some of the rubrics.   He did not modify the Roman Canon itself .  He then promulgated this ancient Roman Latin Mass in all places (except where there was still in use another Rite that was 200 years or older).  This did not include where the Byzantine Rites were being used.  But remember, the vast majority of Catholics are Roman Rite Catholics. Since then, slight changes have been made, like new saints feast days, but the Tridentine Missal, or St. Pius V Missal was in use all over the Roman Rite Church for 400 years. But then, in 1965, this Tridentine Missal was translated into the vernacular (in our case, English) and no longer was obliged to be offered in Latin only.  The Novu

Purgatory on Earth

Purgatory on Earth By  Jay Toups in  Catholic, Charity, Mercy  on November 10, 2018 Guest Post by Supertradmum Years ago, I asked God to give me my purgatory on earth. He has and is. A few years afterwards, one of my newer spiritual directors asked me if I had asked my spiritual director at the time I petitioned God for that grace. I said no, as it was at a time when I was between spiritual directors. This new one said something to the effect that he would have weighed such a request from a directee. However, one can ask to have one’s purgatory on earth. This is not quite the same as going through the purgative stage of holiness. Allowing one’s self to take on pain on earth for the reparation of one’s own sin is not only laudatory, but recommended by some of the saints. The purgative stage happens before one gets to the stage of experiencing suffering for the sake of love. That second description is what one experiences in purgatory. One has seen God in all His B
