Have you heard of St Mechtilde "Our Father" prayer?  It's another powerful prayer that helps release souls in purgatory. Each time St. Mechtilde recited this prayer, she saw multitude of souls in Purgatory ascend to Heaven. We should pray this prayer too for the souls in purgatory especially for our deceased love ones.   This is also a good prayer/meditation to examine our conscience to help us avoid purgatory. What is it like in purgatory?  And what type of suffering do they experience there? There are many saints who had vision of purgatory.  One of them is St. Faustina Kowalska — one of the greatest mystics of the 20th century.
