A Catholic Perspective on Why Pride Month (lgbtqxyz) is Problematic

"It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels." —Saint Augustine

The doctrines and moral values of the Catholic church are based on the teachings of the Bible, the teachings of the Church, and the traditions of their faith. Only this specific type of relationship—marriage—is permissible to engage in sexual activity, according to the Catholic Church's doctrine. The union of a man and a woman is referred to as marriage.

Homosexual acts are considered to be gravely disordered according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved

(CCC 2357)

The Church believes that those who engage in these acts must abstain from them in order to remain in communion with God. Therefore, Catholics should not participate in Pride Month LGBTQ because these celebrations and activities promote a lifestyle and behaviors that go against the teachings of the Church.

The Church teaches that the promotion of homosexual activity is a sin that leads people away from God. Pride Month encourages people to celebrate their sexual orientation and to engage in sexual activities that are considered morally wrong by the Church. In addition, these celebrations often involve the promotion of gender ideology, which is contrary to Catholic teachings about human sexuality and the complementarity of men and women.

The Church’s stance on homosexuality is not rooted in hate or bigotry but in a desire to uphold the dignity and sanctity of the human person. Catholics believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God, and therefore deserves respect and love. However, the Church also believes that our bodies and our sexuality have a purpose and a meaning that are inextricably linked to our identity as men and women. Celebrating Pride Month and participating in its activities sends a message that the Church’s teachings on human sexuality are irrelevant and that sexual orientation is the defining characteristic of a person’s identity.

Moreover, Catholics have a responsibility to their status as members of the Church and, in doing so, obey its teachings. By participating in Pride Month, Catholics would be contradicting the Church’s teachings on human sexuality. Catholics are called to live a life of holiness and to abstain from anything that leads them away from God. Celebrating Pride Month would signify their rebellion against their faith and beliefs which is a lot of an infringement on the respect of God’s commands.

To sum up, the Catholic Church holds a strong stance against homosexual activities and gender ideology. Thus, participating in Pride Month LGBTQ celebrations violates Catholic teachings on human sexuality and genders by promoting homosexual activities and promoting gender experimentation. Catholics have a responsibility to live their lives in accordance with the Church’s teachings, which includes abstaining from behaviors that are seen as immoral and against Church teachings. By joining the Pride Month LGBTQ, Catholics would be choosing to go against Church teaching, and it would be an act of disobedience against their faith. Therefore, catholic participation in Pride Month is discouraged.
