The "Churching of Women"

Do you know or have you ever heard of "Churching of Women" ? I HAVEN'T!

This "Churching of Women" was tweeted and pointed out by Dr Taylor Marshall on twitter. So many beautiful traditions are hidden from us! 

If you're a Catholic mother, did your Catholic priest offer to you the traditional rite of "Churching of Women" after you gave birth to your child(ren)?

The "Churching of Women" is a traditional liturgy whereby a new mother is welcomed back to church by the priest and expresses her gratitude for surviving the pains of Eve. It was something left behind after Vatican II. An FSSP priest have performed it for his (Dr Taylor Marshall) wife every time.

What is more surprising to me (felt robbed!) is that after watching this video, I don't think I was, nor the Novus Ordo church even do this kind of baptism! I'm talking about 'Traditional Baptism' - being exorcised, using blessed salt, and utter the exorcism prayers: (this is the english version of the Latin exorcism prayer)

Go forth from him (her), unclean spirit, and give place to the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.

I exorcise thee, unclean spirit, in the name of the Father + and of the Son, + and of the Holy + Spirit, that thou goest out and depart from this servant of God, N. For He commands Thee, accursed one, Who walked upon the sea, and stretched out His right hand to Peter about to sink. Therefore, accursed devil, acknowledge thy sentence, and give honor to the living and true God: give honor to Jesus Christ His Son, and to the Holy Spirit; and depart from this servant of God, N. because God and our Lord Jesus Christ hath vouchsafed to call him (her) to His holy grace and benediction and to the font of Baptism.

And this sign of the holy Cross, which we make upon his (her) forehead, do thou, accursed devil, never dare to violate. Through the same Christ our Lord

I exorcise thee, every unclean spirit, in the name of God the Father + Almighty, in the name of Jesus + Christ, His Son, our Lord and Judge, and in the power of the Holy + Spirit, that thou be depart from this creature of God N, which our Lord hath deigned to call unto His holy temple, that it may be made the temple of the living God, and that the Holy Spirit may dwell therein. Through the same Christ our Lord, who shall come to judge the living and the dead, and the world by fire!

I never knew this and thought that getting poured with water on the forehead, anointed with oil and prayers are good enough. I think Traditional Baptism needed to be reintroduced again. SERIOUSLY!

If you were born before Vatican II, then you may probably have had the proper exorcism on your baptism, otherwise you and I are in the same boat... So many traditions have been changed/hidden and we feel being robbed.
