CoronaVirus — A Chastisement? A Wake Up Call?

We have heard about this deadly virus that is spreading all over the world, originated from Wuhan, China.  It is very alarming how deadly and quickly this virus spreads globally, yet it is rarely mentioned on mainstream media.

From a religious point of view, could this be a chastisement? Perhaps, a wake up call? I don't know, we don't know.  With all the sin mankind has been committing, it is staggering. The immoralities: from abortion to euthanasia, homosexuality to transgenderism, sin of homosexual clergy, heresy, idolatry and lists goes on.. It's very obvious.  The world needs some cleansing as it is filled with filth.  It seems overdue.
And if we look at what has been happening to catholic clergy/churches in china — they have been and are being persecuted by chinese government.  Churches have been demolished.  Catholics are forced to celebrate mass 'underground'.

Does chastisement begin with this deadly virus from China and work it's way around the world?

Is this a punishment sent by God?

Here is a video of what the town of Wuhan in China is dealing with this deadly virus. Thousands of people are flooding over crowded-hospitals in need of medical attention.  Some just passed out and some may have died out in public.

Here are some cases of corona virus in certain countries — showing that you don't need to be coming from China to catch this deadly bug.

Update: #coronavirus patient in Germany never travelled to China, but met a Chinese colleague who later developed symptoms and tested positive for Coronavirus. This is the first human to human transmission reported in #europe

Update: 2 more confirmed cases of #coronavirus in Japan bringing the total to 6. One of which was a man in his 60’s with no previous travel to China, but he is a bus driver who had driven several groups of Chinese tourists.

Novel #coronavirus can be transmitted by touch, China’s medical authority reiterated on Tuesday. The incubation period of novel #coronavirus is usually 3-7 days. Young children and infants could also be infected. (Source: Global Times News)

Incubation period is inside the body. It's carrying the virus without symptoms. This virus can survive on surfaces, like a handrail, doorknob, for 5 days.

It is safe to say that this is scary and somewhat disturbing. I have discussed this with Bro. Thomas during our meeting Saturday night. Even IF passengers get through (some) US airports and get clearance from health officials as non-threatening passenger, they may carry the bug without even knowing it — and whoever they have in contact with here in the US — they can infect them and it's dominoes effect... We already have 5 confirmed cases here in the US with the bug and who knows how many people they have in contact with and so on.  I KNOW I SOUNDED/THINK LIKE A SCRIPT WRITER FROM a SCI-FI MOVIE, but that's a possibility.

What we need to know about this outbreak:

** Like other coronaviruses, the newly identified China coronavirus is being transmitted from person-to-person via droplets when an infected person breathes out, coughs or sneezes. It can also spread via contaminated surfaces such as door handles or railings.

** Infection with the newly identified virus has an incubation period of between one and 14 days, and there are limited accounts that it may also be spreading before symptoms show.

** Infectious disease and virus specialists say the scale of the current outbreak now points to “self-sustaining” human-to-human transmission. They estimate that each infected person is infecting, on average, two to three more people. (Source: REUTERS)

According to CDC, number of coronavirus cases in the US will increase:

How long will this plague lasts? No one knows.  It could be months, years.. It is uncertain.  But what we can do is to protect ourselves:
How to protect yourself
There are currently no vaccines available to protect you against human coronavirus infection. You may be able to reduce your risk of infection by doing the following
* wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
* avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
* avoid close contact with people who are sick.

For information about hand washing, see CDC’s Clean Hands Save Lives!
How to protect others
If you have cold-like symptoms, you can help protect others by doing the following:

* stay home while you are sickavoid close contact with others

* cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands

* clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.

Treatment

There are no specific treatments for illnesses caused by human coronaviruses. Most people with common human coronavirus illness will recover on their own. However, you can do some things to relieve your symptoms. Take pain and fever medications (Caution: do not give Aspirin to children) use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough.  If you are mildly sick, you should drink plenty of liquids stay home and rest.  If you are concerned about your symptoms, you should see your healthcare provider. AND MOST OF ALL — PRAY! PRAY! PRAY!

Going back to the question: Is this epidemic a chastisement? A wake up call?  Maybe, maybe not. But this definitely gets everyone's attention on how life can be short.  Perhaps they may come up quickly with a vaccine for this virus. Or it may take a while before they can produce the perfect vaccine.  It is uncertain.  The best antidote for any adversity whether its from famine, earthquake, pestilence, wars, or persecution - is to get on our knees and ask God for mercy.  Mercy for all our sins.  GO TO CONFESSION. Get right with God. Be in a state of grace, so whatever happens and we get swept away unexpectedly, we may be confident that we will be taken to a permanent home eternally with our Lord. (Jn. 14:1-6)

Here's a Litany prayer against epidemics and plague.

Hear us, O Lord.

Lamb of God, Who takest away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us, O Lord.

Christ hear us.
Christ graciously hear us.

Pray for us Saint Roch, our protector.
That we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

LET US PRAY

Grant, O Lord we beseech Thee,
that the intercession of Saint Roch, Thy Confessor,
may be favorable and turn away from us the scourge of Thy wrath,
and may reconcile us to thy Divine Majesty.
We ask it though our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.
